APPEND : Solidarity Economy and Social Entrepreneurship

The alternative economic system focuses on the development and growth of social and agricultural enterprises using the value chain development approach. The program has triple bottom lines of reasonable profit, development of the poor and environmental stewardship.

In agriculture, the purpose is to establish a sustainable food supply chain where farmer-producers have direct access to the market. The goal of this program is to bless the producers and the consumers, whereby the farmers or producers get an increased income because they have direct access to the market through a shortened supply chain. While the consumers at the same time get access to fresh produce at reasonable prices.

APPEND facilitates the training for the partners’ staff on agricultural technologies, agri-business management and marketing. The APPEND Partners play the role of financing arm of the farmers’ groups and they also act as facilitator of dialogues and cooperate between producers and the final consumers and some act as marketing arm for the production of their farmers’ clients. Farmers also go through the necessary training and technology enhancement, leadership development and mentoring.

"He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and HE will reward him for what he has done."

Proverbs 19:17
